Today I want to talk to you about the power of giving. It seems that we live in a disconnected world, even as we seek to become more connected through the power of technology. Yes, this is quite ironic. I believe that we are only fooling ourselves if we believe that because of our technological advances we are becoming more human. Perhaps we are slowly becoming part machine and part human. Sure, I say that in a half joking and half serious way, but the point is that generosity at times seems to be on the edge of extinction.
The World Around Me
I go out and about and observe the world, and become shocked at the level of disrespect that exists in the world around me. Sure, you will see isolated cases of generosity, but for the most part, you sense the disconnection that exists. Anyone can be generous to their families and friends, but it takes a special character to be generous and kind to those with whom we have little to no connection.
The Gates Of Heaven
I’m not sure if you are religious or not, and I am not interested in preaching to you. However, I fully believe that when you become a giver you open up the gates of heaven, and blessings begin to poor down from the Creator of the Universe. Even if you don’t believe in a Creator, I’m sure you hold some kind of philosophical beliefs that can inspire you to give.
It is easy for poor people to criticize the rich and successful people of the world. After all, it is always easy to punch up rather than down. However, examine the reality of the world, and you will discover that the wealthy people of the world are the biggest givers of them all. Do you think it is a coincidence that they possess so much abundance while the rest of the world suffers in scarcity?
The Perspective Of The Wise
It’s all about perspective. You might think you don’t have enough to give. However, there is always someone who is in a worst situation than you. If you have food and shelter, you will find that there are some who have neither of those. Can you give 1% of what you earn to the poor and afflicted? I’m sure you can. When you get in the habit of giving, great things will happen. You will prove that money is not your God, and in doing so you will free yourself from the worship of money.
However, it’s not jut about giving. You have learn to receive as well. I have noticed that people in general have a problem receiving. When someone offers them money, they reject it, perhaps thinking that they are following some kind of elevated principle. Yet, they don’t realize that, by doing this, they are robbing the person who is giving to them of the joy of giving. In order for there to be a giver, there must be a receiver.
My Challenge To You
The end this post, I want to challenge you to start giving to those who are less privileged than you. I want to invite you to be nice to strangers. I want to motivate you to connect with people of different backgrounds. When you do this, you slowly become a different person, and this person will start to achieve great things because of the blessings of the Allmighty Creator.
